SUPPORT UKRAINE

The Jewish community has been watching reports of the Russian invasion of Ukraine with alarm, dismay, and a deep sense of foreboding. For members of our community, this seems too much like the past, bringing out memories of World War II. Many of us have family and friends in Ukraine. No matter if we are personally affected or not, our history has taught us to constantly be on guard. As Canadians, who have usually felt secure within our borders, we feel angst over this invasion.

One of the largest annual donations the Jewish Federation of Victoria and Vancouver Island receives flows directly to aid Seniors in the Ukraine. But we can do more now!

We can stand in solidarity with our Ukrainian neighbors. We can express our support by donating funds for food, water, shelter, medical care, and other basic requirements to those who remain in Ukraine and to those who have fled.

All donations received to our JFVVI Ukraine Emergency Relief Fund will be immediately directed to those in need through our partner agency the Joint Distribution Committee (JDC), for immediate relief:

Emergency funding will focus on:
– Helping people make Aliyah to Israel
– Securing the local community and its institutions
– Maintaining critical welfare services
– Assisting internally displaced people in multiple locations
– Launching an emergency hotline
– Securing temporary housing for people in transit
– Purchasing satellite phones to maintain communications across the region
– Securing five Jewish schools and training staff to manage crisis needs

Thank you for your concern and support.
